Building History

Adolph Spreckels, the second son (of two) of the sugar tycoon, Claus Spreckels, lived here with his wife, Alma de Bretteville Spreckels (1881–1968), who became a significant philanthropist in San Francisco, CA, and their three children: Alma Emma (born 1909), Adolph Bernard, Jr., (born 1911) and Dorothy Constance (born 1913). Prior to buying their Pacific Heights property, Adolph and Alma Spreckels owned a residence in Sausalito, CA.

In c. 2016, the romance novelist, Danielle Fernandes Dominique Schuelein-Steel (born 08/14/1947), popularly known as Danielle Steel, owned the Adolph and Alma Spreckels house at 2080 Washington Street.

Building Notes

A previous house existed on this Pacific Heights site, but was demolished to make room for the Spreckels' enormous Neo-classical mansion.
