Platform Hazel was the first off-shore oil drilling platform in the shallow waters off of Santa Barbara, CA, and neighboring coastal cities. Various oil fields, including the Summerland Offshore Oil Field, Ellwood Oil Field, Carpinteria Offshore Oil Field and the Dos Cuadras Offshore Oil Field were being routinely tapped within the decade. At least five, large-scale, drilling platforms had been erected by 1968.
