The food manufacturing magnate William T. Bishop, Jr., lived in this house in the 1930s; he died here of a heart attack in 1936. William T. and his uncle, Roland P. Bishop, both from KY, started Bishop and Company in Los Angeles, CA, in 1887 and grew it into one of the largest, diversified food companies in the U.S. during the 1920s. The Depression forced Bishop and Company to sell to Nabisco in 11/1929. William Bishop was the public face of the company, while Roland managed behind the scenes.
