Ivar Haglund (1905-1985) first opened a seafood bar adjacent to Pier 54 at the foot of Madison Avenue on the Seattle Waterfront in 1938. Seven years later, he opened this larger restaurant, the flagship of his small local chain, on the same site. In addition to 3 full-service restaurants, Ivar's also operated 24 smaller Seafood Bars in various Puget Sound locations (and one in Santa Clara, CA), including roadside spots, several malls, Sea-Tac Airport, and concession stands at 3 stadiums and an arena.
