Britt (b. 12/25/1855 in MO-d. 02/15/1935 in CA) was a prominent lawyer in San Diego, CA, and Los Angeles, CA, for many years. He lived in San Diego from the 1870s-1900, when he moved to Los Angeles. He lived here for the next 35 years. He was a partner in the legal firms of Hunsaker and Britt (headquartered first in San Diego, CA, and later Los Angeles) and its successor, Hunsaker, Britt and Cosgrove. His Colonial Revival Style residence (built 1910) in the West Adams District of Los Angeles was a neighborhood landmark. Britt was highly influential and served on the California State Supreme Court Commission from 1895-1900. He, like so many influential men of his day, belonged to several social clubs, including the California Club, University Club of Los Angeles, Masonic Club and Union League Club. Britt, his wife, Harriett C. Biggerstaff, and their two daughters, Agnes Wickfield Britt and Constance Britt, lived in this San Diego dwelling.
