Building History

An article in the Los Angeles Times of 09/06/1888, reported: "Various parties are named as applicants for the lease of the new opera-house in this city. Among others are named Messrs. Lesser & Hyde, McLain &Lehman, Harry C. Wyatt and G.E. Monfort. Among such an array of talent it is hard to choose, but if the scribe had the settlement of the question, as a matter of sentiment, at any rate, Harry Wyatt, manager of the Childs Opera-house, would probably grasp the plum."(See "The New Opera-House," Los Angeles Times, 09/06/1888, p. 6.)

The building was purchased by a group including G.D. Porter in 05/1907.

Alteration

Plans existed in 1894 to renovate the Grand Opera House Block into a hotel. Alterations were made to the Grand Opera House c. 09/1906 to comply with Pasadena fire ordinances;
