Frank G. Moran opened this junior college and college preparatory school c. 1914; due to a lack of funding during the Depression, it closed c. 1933. A Portland man, Joseph Hill, who ran the Hill Military Academy in Portland, OR, paid back taxes due on the Moran property and became owner c. 1937; Hill opened his Puget Sound Naval Academy on 09/15/1938. This military school prepared young men, ages 12-18, for acceptance at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, or the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, CT; the Puget Sound Naval Academy operated until 06/1951, when it closed. The property later housed a retirement home, Messenger House.
