Fort Clatsop was located southeast of Warrenton, OR, and southwest of Astoria, OR, on the Lewis and Clark River.

The Lewis and Clark Expedition built a fort on this site, occupying it between 12/07/1805 to 03/23/1806, during the harsh winter months. After the expedition left the fort, it decayed, and was last seen in the mid-19th century.

A fort replica was built on the supposed site of the original Fort Clatsop. Early archaeological studies of the site took place between 1955-1961, and have been on-going.
