The main house was erected in 1964; Two university professors, one a writer, the other an installation artist, enlarged the house commissioning the San Diego architecture firm of Safdie Rabines. Both Ricardo Rabines and Taal Safdie served as Principal Designers on the Artist Bridge Studio.

Safdie Rabines renovated the main 1964 house in 1994 and added the 1200-square-foot "Artist Bridge Studio" in 2007. The studio was a wood-framed box, with sliding windows opening the interior to the landscape. It bridged a dip in the hilly, desert terrain.
