Capital Co. and Macy's California, financed the construction of this 60-acre shopping center; it had some resemblances to the Valley Fair Shopping Center finished in San Jose the year before. One notable similarity were the large carnival areas planned for the amusement of children at both places. At its opening, Bay Fair Shopping Center had 22 stores.
