The 1st Methodist Episcopal Church #2 was located on the southwest corner of 8th and Hope Streets.

Building History

This extensive church complex replaced the Abbotsford Inn on the southwest corner of 8th and Hope Streets.

Demolition

The 1st Methodist Episcopal Church #2 was demolished in 1983, despite the resistance of the local historic preservationist community. The lot, purchased by the Southern California Gas Company sat vacant for over twently years, until a high-rise apartment building, the 290-unit, 22-story 8 + Hope Street Tower, was completed in 2014.
