Los Cerritos Center is bounded by South Street on the south, US Highway 605 on the west, 183rd Street on the north, and Gridley Road on the east.

Ernest M. Hahn, Incorporated, developed Phase I of the shopping center, opening it in 09/1971. In 2008, Los Cerritos Center contained 1,288,245 gross leasable square feet.

In 2008, Macerich owned the Los Cerritos Center; at the time, it was one of the largest shopping mall owners in the U.S., possessing 73 malls in 19 states. Macerich owned 19 shopping complexes in CA, 3 in WA, and 2 in OR. Investors, Mace Siegel and Richard Cohen, started the MaceRich Real Estate Company in New York, NY, in 1964; it became a publically-traded company in 1994.

The Cerritos Center was developed in five phases between 1971-1994.
