Fujimatsu Moriguchi founded the Uwajimaya grocery store in Seattle, WA, after World War II. Moriguchi, himself an immigrant, started in the food business in 1928 selling fishcakes to local Japanese workers in the Tacoma area. In 2007, Uwajimaya had 500 employees working in the three-store grocery chain and its restaurant wholesale company. (The firm also started a real estate development arm, as well. Tomoko Morguchi Matsuno, who replaced her brother, Tomio, as CEO, planned to expand the chain beyond its three stores in Seattle, Bellevue, WA, and Beaverton, OR.
