This reading room opened to Green Lake inhabitants in August 1905. Demand soon caused the need for a larger facility, and by 1908, funds were being collected locally.

The first Green Lake Branch was housed in a single story, gable-roofed building with a glass storefront and a false front. Its shelves could accommodate 5,000 books.

The Green Lake Branch improved its off-street parking capacities when it acquired a property across the street in 1967.
