The California State Department of Parks and Recreation made the San Jose Normal School Campus Historical Landmark #417 on 01/06/1949.

San Jose students and alumni protested the proposed demolition of Tower Hall in 1963, successfully halting it. Over the next three years, the university administration agreed to renovate and remodel Tower Hall, a process completed in 1966. In October 2005, a two million dollar restoration of Tower Hall was announced; this renovation finished in 2007.
