Building History

Cushman bought a piece of land owned previously by John Van Horne (1918-2003), and his wife Audrey (b. 1924), both of whom were architects. The Van Hornes worked together from the mid-1950s until John's death in 2003. Cushman, early on, worked for the Van Hornes and gradually took on his own commissions. The Van Hornes built their own Modern residence next door at 1114 East Shelby Street.
