Businessmen Arthur Mayer of San Francisco, CA, and Joseph Jacobs of Burlingame, CA, financed the erection of the Capitola Theatre in 1947; they commissioned Harold Onstead to design it. Construction started in 11/1947 and opened on 08/06/1948. Post-War shortages in building materials were common in the US during the late 1940s, and this delayed the opening of the Capitola. Under the original ownership until the 1990s, the Capitola closed for good in 2004.

Demolished; the Capitola Theatre was razed in 05/2010, to make way for a hotel.
