President, AIA, East Bay Chapter, Oakland, CA, 1971-1972. The Contra Costa Times reported on Darrow's election in 02/1971: Members of the East Bay chapter, American Institute of Architects, have elected Lee Stuart Darrow chapter president of 1971. The chapter serves Alameda, Contra Costa, Napa, and Solana counties. In addition to their duties on the chapter board of directors, Darrow and Vice President E. Paul Kelly will serve as delegates of the California Council, American Institute of Architects. Also elected to represent the chapter on the council board were delegates Harry Bruno and Roger Durst and alternate Reeve Gould. In mid-December the East Bay chapter became the second AIA chapter in California (the Southern California Chapter in Los Angeles was the first three years ago) to hire an executive director. An Alameda man, Brian J. Coughlan, was named to the post following three months of work by a five man selection committee. Other officers were Charles W. Before Lee's birth, his parents lived with his siblings at 110 West Street in Anaheim, CA, according to the 1920 US Census. Lee Darrow was born in Covina, CA, on 01/07/1927. The 1930 US Census found his family dwelling in a house they owned at 919 Dalton Avenue in Azusa, CA. His father was Roysel Hiram Darrow (born 06/18/1881 in KS-d. 04/03/1959 in Los Angeles County, CA), a mechanical engineer, who had finished one year of college. As per the 1920 US Census, Roysel worked as an engineer for a citrus products company in Anaheim. By 1940, the census indicated that he worked as an engineer for a bakery.

He wed Lee's mother Hazel B. White (born 10/18/1884 in UT-d. 11/09/1961 in Los Angeles County, CA) in c. 1906. Hazel was a high school graduate who raised three children, two boys and a girl.

Lee had an older brother Earl Aaron Darrow (born 06/09/1908 in Stewart, NV-d. 09/25/1970 in Los Angeles County, CA) and an older sister Helen Lorraine Darrow Chase (born 03/30/1917 in Norwalk, CA-d. 02/10/1998).

When he was discharged from the US Navy, Darrow stood 6-feet tall, and weighed about 150 pounds. He was Caucasian with a ruddy complexion, brown eyes and brown hair at age 19.
