Born in PA, In 1900, James S. Warner lived with his family in the 4th Ward of Erie PA. Warner lived as a lodger in a large Seattle rooming house in 1910; it is unclear what happened to Warner after leaving Seattle, WA.

His parents came from PA and VA. His father was James S. Warner, Sr., (born c. 1842), was a fire insurance agent in 1880. His mother, Rebecca Warner (born 06/1845), served as a single parent in 1900; both of her parents were Irish. In 1900, the Warner household consisted of three sons: Charles M. (born 02/1872 in PA), Spencer R. (born 06/1875 in PA), and James S. Warner, then a student. A servant, Selma Carlson, (born c. 1878 in Sweden) also lived with the family.
