Gilbreth wed Lillian Evelyn Moller Gilbreth on 10/19/1904 in Oakland, CA.

Frank and Lillian Gilbreth efficiently produced 12 children: Anne, Mary (1906–1912), Ernestine Gilbreth Carey, Martha, Frank Bunker Gilbreth, Jr., William, Lillian, Frederick, Daniel, John, Robert and Jane.

Gilbreth, while working as a brick layer, became fascinated by studying the physical process of laying bricks. He became interested in time-motion studies, utilizing photography. He first sought to understand the motions involved in performing a task, and then to map out and distill these processes to be most efficient. Gilbreth was a prototypical modernist, believing in the power of empirical observation and the concept of improved living through scientific and technological endeavor. He died of a heart attack at age 55 in Montclair, NJ.
