Personal

Relocation

Arnold Stanley Rosner was born in Chicago, IL. At age five, he lived with his parents Max and Bella, elder brother Lawrence and a servant, Madeline Warner (born c. 1892 in France) at 1356 Kedzie Avenue in Chicago, IL, a neighborhood with many recent immigrant residents, but a particularly high number from Eastern Europe. Some of his neighbors also owned expensive houses, ranging in price from $12,000 to $30,000. His family paid $85 per month in rent, in line with that paid by others nearby. Max Rosner likely made a competitive wage working as a civil engineer. (See Ancestry.com, Source Citation Year: 1930; Census Place: Chicago, Cook, Illinois; Page: 5A; Enumeration District: 1200; FHL microfilm: 2340203, accessed 10/20/2023.)

The 1940 US Census found Rosner living with his parents Max and Bella, sibling Lawrence, and paternal grandmother Simma Rosner (born c. 1863 in Romania) at 6210 Talman Avenue in Chicago, IL. They rented this dwelling, and, according to the census form, paid only $5 per month for it, a very small amount for the period. This might have been an error. (See Ancestry.com, Source Citation Year: 1940; Census Place: Chicago, Cook, Illinois; Roll: m-t0627-01023; Page: 12A; Enumeration District: 103-3255, accessed 10/20/2023.)

On 06/14/1943, Rosner lived at 3934 Pine Grove Avenue in Chicago, IL, while he attended the Armour College of Engineering. (See Ancestry.com, Source Citation National Archives at St. Louis; St. Louis, Missouri; Wwii Draft Registration Cards For Illinois, 10/16/1940-03/31/1947; Record Group: Records of the Selective Service System, 147; Box: 1537, accessed 10/20/2023.) His family, including his 92-year-old grandmother Simma, continued to live at 3934 Pine Grove Avenue on the third floor of the apartment house in 1950. At the time, Arnold worked as a college engineering teacher. (See Ancestry.com, Source Citation National Archives at Washington, DC; Washington, D.C.; Seventeenth Census of the United States, 1950; Year: 1950; Census Place: Chicago, Cook, Illinois; Roll: 4215; Page: 16; Enumeration District: 103-4435, accessed 10/20/2023.) Rosner maintained his home at this address in 1951. Rosner lived and worked as an engineer in Chicago, IL, through 1962, at least. He moved to Seattle, WA, sometime during the 1962-1969 period.

The architect lived at 963 13th Avenue East between 1995 and 2002, at least. As per the 1910 US Census, Simma arrived in the US in 1902, while Moritz made it to New York by 1900. The 1910 US Census noted that Moritz had been naturalized by that time and worked as a department store packer.
