New York-born contractor and architect James M. Wood (1841-c. 1923) spent most of his career in Chicago, IL, and the Midwest. He spent the late 1880s and early 1890s working on the West Coast, and was active in Tacoma, WA, c. 1888. He also practiced in Los Angeles, CA, in 1888.
