Designed for a site bounded by West Third Street, Fifth Street, Flower Street and Fremont Street.

Opera Associates sought to build a 30,000 seat auditorium on a 23-acre site, bounded by Third Street, Fifth Street, Flower Street and Fremont Street in Downtown Los Angeles in 1948. An all-star Board of Architects included Wallace K. Harrison, William W. Wurster, Reginald D. Johnson, Gordon B. Kaufman, William Pereira, and Consultants, Charles O. Matcham, Henry Dreyfuss (industrial designer) and Eero Saarinen.
