This Greek Orthodox congregation split off from the Greco-Russian Orthodox Church of Saint Spiridon between 1916-1921. The local Greek Orthodox community bought a parcel of land at Yale Avenue North and Thomas Street in 1916, and gradually assembled the funds to erect the Saint Demetrios Church #1. It was dedicated on 11/20/1921. The new church cost $50,000 to build, and was said to have been the only Greek Orthodox church in Washington at the time.

Demolished, 1995, to make way for a new main store for the retailer, REI. A plaque marks the spot of the former house of worship.
