This school served the children of workers at the nearby Seattle Steel Company plant. The school closed in 1989, but was gradually renovated for use as the Youngstown Cultural Arts Center. This process began in 1999 spearheaded by the Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association (DNDA).

An 1917 brick addition was erected next to the original wooden facility.
