Taliesen Corporation, a part of Cressey Development of Vancouver, BC, commissioned the construction of this high-rise, containing 161 units. (Some sources have indicated there to be 158 units, but the number as of 2009, was 161.) ("Taliesin" means "shining brow" in Welsh, and was the name of Frank Lloyd Wright's residences in Wisconsin and Arizona; "Taliesen" may have made reference to Meridian's hillside location.) Originally, the apartment sizes ran as follows: studios, 400-429 square feet; one bedroom units, 557-793; two bedrooms, 1,013-1,310; three bedrooms 1,666-2,657. Amenities for residents included a lobby staffed by a concierge, a small theater (with 12 seats), fitness room, hot tub, steam room, community space, conference location, and a guest suite.

This building featured a post-tensioned concrete two-way slab-system structure and a ductile-moment resisting center core. It was 273 feet high, with 27 floors above grade. (Some sites indicated that there were 26 floors, but the correct number is 27.) The Meridian had the largest number of sub-grade floors in Downtown Seattle, at eight.
