Wood had served as Mayor of Seattle, WA, beginning in 1897. He achieved some notoriety by leaving his post as Mayor and heading north to the Klondike to seek his fortune during the Gold Rush.
Emma and William Wood lived in this Neo-Classical Revival residence between 1905-1915. Before becoming Mayor of Seattle, Wood worked as a land speculator, owning large tracts in the area of Green Lake in northeast Seattle.
