Microsoft founder and UW benefactor, Paul Allen (born 01/21/1953 in Seattle, WA), donated $5 million in matching funds for the construction of this addition to the Henry Art Gallery.

The Henry Art Gallery Addition was completed by 04/1997; it increased the museum's size four-fold, from 10,000 to 40,000 square feet; the addition included a multimedia gallery, cafe, gift shop, sculpture court, storage facilities, and a 154-seat auditorium.
