Building History

The Santa Barbara Earthquake of 06/29/1925 that did significant damage to the city, weakened the previous Santa Barbara County Courthouse; in 1926, plans were made to replace it with the current building. Architect William Mooser, Sr., (1868-1962) design designed this elaborate Spanish Colonial Revival complex, dedicated on 08/14/1929.

In 2005, the courthouse was contained in four buildings with a cumulative total of 150,000 square feet.
