Building Notes

The Spokane Public Safety Building occupied land on which an earlier Spokane County Jail, completed in 1895, once stood. The jail was razed c. 1970. An archway closed by two 550-pound wrought-iron gates linked the courthouse to the jail. (See Stefanie Pettit, Spokane Spokesman-Review.com, "Landmarks: Restored gates dedicated at Spokane County Courthouse," published 10/11/2017, accessed 04/12/2019.)
