Overview

The Santa Monica School District erected this outdoor Greek theatre as a memorial for those Santa Monica High School students killed in World War I. It opened in 1921. The Los Angeles architectural firm of Allison and Allison, renowned for their school designs, provided the plans for the new memorial theatre.

Building History

The citizens of Santa Monica passed a $30,000 bond issue to raise funds to build the "Open Air Memorial Theatre."
