The City of Palo Alto summarized this library: "The Mitchell Park Library opened in 1958 following a voter approved bond measure that also funded the construction of the Main Library. The library was 9,478 square feet. Located in a neighborhood with several schools, it is used heavily by students after school. An independent consultant determined that to meet the needs of the service area, the Mitchell Park Library should be three times larger and have a collection twice the size." The city's summary did not detail that the library was designed by Edward Durrell Stone (1902-1978), an internationally-known architect whose practice spanned the 1930s-1970s.

City of Palo Alto,

Demolished; the City of Palo Alto razed the Mitchell Park Branch of the Palo Alto Public Library and the Mitchell Park Community Center in 10/2010. A new combined facility with a two-story 41,000-square-foot library and a one-story 15,000-square-foot community center was being built 2012-2013. It was scheduled to open in the Spring 2013. The City of Palo Alto called the razed buildings "...undersized and aged facilities." (See "City of Palo Alto, Mitchell Park Library and Community Center,"Accessed 06/21/2012.) Money for the new combined building was funded by passage of City Measure N, passed in 2008.
