Building History

According to his obituary published in the Los Angeles Timesof01/16/1966, the Los Angeles architect Stiles O. Clements (1883-1966) assisted on the design of San Simeon, William Randolph Hearst's massive estate. Dates for work on San Simeon vary. Some put construction occurring between 1920-1937. in 1957, the Hearst Corporation made a gift of La Cuesta Encantada to the State of California.

Building Notes

San Simeon consisted of a complex of buildings that included: Casa Grande (begun 1920) had 100 rooms, Casa del Mar (A), Casa del Monte (B), Casa del Sol, Neptune Pool, Temple Facade, Neptune Terrace, C Terrace, Esplanade, Main Terrace, South Terrace, Rear Courtyard, Recreation Building (Indoor Pool), North Terrace, Site of D House, and a proposed Great Hall.
