This dry dock facility for the construction and repair of ships was completed on 02/18/1891 at a cost of approximately $3 million. Mare Island had developed into the main repair depot for the US Navy on the Pacific Coast by this time. (See Vallejo, California, City Directory, 1901-1902, p. 27.)
