Building History

In late 1886, the Los Angeles Herald reported plans by James B. Lankershim (1850-1931) to build 20 new cottages for an undisclosed site in the city. The newspaper stated: "Mr. Young has received orders from Mr. James B. Lankershim to prepare plans for twenty two-story cottages, which he intends to sell on installment plan at cost. A rare chance to secure a nice home." (See "More Building Movements," Los Angeles Herald, vol. 26, no. 57, 12/08/1886, p. 4.) Lankershim frequently utilized the services of Canadian-born architect Robert Brown Young (1855-1914) to design his new real estate developments during the 1880s-1910s.
