Building History

In the late 1880s, a land boom gripped Southern CA, drawing thousands of new residents able to travel transcontinentally by rail. This hotel, constructed in 1887-1888, reflected this influx of newcomers many seeking temporary lodging like this grand hotel.

Demolition

A fire burned this hotel to the ground on 11/10/1905. (See "Fire destroys hotel,"Los Angeles Examiner, 11/11/1905, p. 4.)
