Overview

This theatre began business as the Novelty in 1905, became the New Peoples a year later, and then was known under various names--the Peoples (c. 1907-1909), Olympic (c. 1910-1911), Century (c. 1913-1916), Alphin (c. 1914), Omar (1917-1922), Moon (1923-1926), and the Gayety (1938-c. 1960). The theatre operated within the Waldorf Hotel, but was out of business by 1960. (See Historic Los Angeles Theatres--Downtown, "Gayety Theatre," accessed 05/11/2017.)
