Building Notes

On 01/06/1878, a public meeting was held at the Palace Ampitheatre "...to discuss the Chinese and Labor Questions. Several speakers will address the meeting. By order of Committee." (See "Classified Ads," Daily Alta California, vol. 30, no. 10132, 01/06/1878, p. 4.) It is not known for sure what committee it was, but it may have been the California State Legislature's Senate Special Committee on Chinese Immigration, that was active between 1876-1878. This committee wrote the report: California State Legislature, Senate Special Committee on Chinese Immigration,Chinese Immigration: Its Social, Moral, and Political Effect: Report to the California State Senate of its Special Committee on Chinese Immigration, (Sacramento: F.P. Thompson, 1878).
