An article in the Los Angeles Herald, indicated that the Slaney Block was in existence in 1879: "Attention is directed to the Sheriff's sale of groceries, etc., which will commence at the Slaney Block, Main street, on Wednesday next, March 19th, at 10 o'clock A.M."
