Overview

The New York-based home furnishings retailer, W. and J. Sloane, opened this eight-story retail outlet in San Francisco, CA, in 03/1911. It had had a store operating in the city since 1875. By 1918, W. and J. Sloane had expanded nationally and internationally, with 3 retail outlets in New York, NY (the flagship store at 575 5th Avenue), Washington DC (1508 H Street NW), and San Francisco. In addition, the firm maintained 12 wholesale outlets in Boston, MA, Philadelphia, PA, Chicago, IL, Saint Louis, MO, Kansas City, MO, Detroit, MI, Dallas, TX, Denver, CO, Los Angeles, CA, Portland, OR, Kobe, Japan, and Canton, China.

Building Notes
