Overview

This 1896 design by the peripatetic architect Alfred Bodley (1870-1946) has been called "...one of Victoria's foremost examples of the Shingle Style." (See Victoria Heritage Foundation, "1032 McGregor Avenue," accessed 04/01/2016.) It bridges the late 19th century's love of variety and formal complexity with the early 20th century's interest in compositional distillation and unity; its collection of turrets, gables, and projecting wings is unified by a continuous skin of shingles. The house cost $3,500 to build in 1896.
