Building History

Measuring 200 feet long ,100 wide and capable of seating 1,400, Sacramento's Roman Catholic Cathedral was the largest west of the Mississippi River when it opened 06/12/1889.

Alterations

The church decided to close off its transept dome to improve acoustics in the 1930s. Former State of CA Architect Harry Clay Hallenbeck supervised a renovation, completed between 08/2003 until 11/2005. Hallenbeck served as Project Director of the restoration work for Vanir Construction Management, Incoporated. The church had its formal reopening on 11/ 20/2005.
