An article in the San Francisco Call of 1911 described this hotel: "This building will be five stories in height, the first story to be occupied by a large store and an entrance and office for the hotel portion in the upper four stories. The upper portion will be divided into lodging rooms, 20 on each floor. These rooms will be supplied with hot and cold water and steam heat throughout and will be amply lighted from exterior light wells and from the street. A fast running elevator will be provided and all the usual requirements for a first class house of this character, including public baths. The construction of the building will be class C, with steel columns and girders in the lower stories. The exterior of the building will be treated with cemented work in the first story in imitation of stone, while the upper floors will be of red stock brick with white open joints and trimmed with white cement. The cost of the building complete will be slightly more than $45,000." (See "South of Market Is a Growing Section," San Francisco Call, vol 109, no. 115, 03/25/1911, p. 19.)
