Following the fire at 1st Methodist Church in 1981, the congregation was invited to hold its services at another central Oakland Methodist church, Saint Stephens United Methodist. As a result of their collaboration, 1st Methodist and Saint Stephens United Methodist merged to form a new congregation, Lake Merritt United Methodist Church (LMUMC), in 1984.

A note in the American Architect and Building News, 05/31/1911 said: "Oakland--First Methodist Church has accepted plans by Architect Norman F. Marsh, 424 Spring St., Los Angeles, for erection of edifice at Twenty-fourth St. and Broadway. Cost $150,000."

Demolished; 1st Methodist Church, Oakland, CA, burned in 1981.
