Kelham did a number of office buildings for petroleum companies in California during the 1920s, including the Shell Oil Building, San Francisco, CA, the Standard Oil Building, San Francisco, CA, and this one. The style is a derivation from Renaissance Northern Italian architecture; Kelham also mined Northern Italian architecture for details on buildings at UCLA later in the decade;
