Building History

Accroding to Edith E. Pitti for the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency and the Sacramento Museum and History Division, Daniel E. Callahan founded the Golden Eagle Hotel in 1850. He served as its proprietor from at least 1868 until 1873. (See "Golden Eagle Hotel Advertisement, Sacramento Daily Union, 06/15/1868, p. 4 and "Golden Eagle Hotel, Sacramento," California Farmer and Journal of Useful Sciences, vol. 11, no. 2, 09/25/1873, p. 12.)

Building Notes

The Golden Eagle Hotel was operating in 1868 in a three-story building with a three-story, wood-frame front porch. Sides of the building appeared to be of brick. this hotel, like the second Golden Eagle, was located on K Street in Sacramento, CA.
