Building History

The Hollywood booster and real estate developer Charles Edward Toberman (1880-1981) financed this large office building-retail space-theatre, the first six-story building in Hollywood. He commissioned the prolific Los Angeles architectural firm of Morgan, Walls and Clements to design the landmark. completed in 1926.

Building Notes

An airplane beacon was added to the top of the El Capitan Building in 1973. (See Los Angeles Times, 07/15/1973.)

Alteration

The building underwent a renovation in 06/1997.
