Overview
This popular hotel, originally known as the Strand Hotel in 1909, was purchased in 1919 by the Arthur Snell and renamed the "Windansea Hotel." The famous surf beach took its name from the hotel that burned during World War II.
Building Notes
According to an article in the Los Angeles Times of 06/21/1941: "The hotel...is situated atop a sandstone cliff directly above the beach. It is small and simple, stresses the home atmosphere and good food." The hotel's veranda, one could survey a half-mile expanse of beach. Demolition
A fire immolated the hotel in 1943. An apartment building replaced the hotel, but was itself replaced in 2015, when the One Neptune Place luxury condominium complex was erected.
