The Sterling Recreation Organization (SRO), once a significant exhibition chain on the West Coast, built the 986-seat Magnolia Theatre in 1947-1948. Sterling retained the noted theatre designer, Benjamin Marcus Priteca to design this small venue. Antoon B. Heinsbergen (1894-1981), the noted Los Angeles movie theatre designer, organized the interior's floral magnolia decorative scheme. The last movie was shown here on 12/03/1974.

This theatre, operated by the Sterling Recreation Organization in 1963, served the somewhat isolated Magnolia Neighborhood.

Demolished; a Washington Mutual Bank branch was erected on this site.
