Building Notes

In the portico of what was the City Library (now the Civic Center Community Building), the Orphist painter, Stanton MacDonald-Wright (1890-1973), created a tile mosaic entitled,'Evolution of Writing;" MacDonald-Wright's mosaic is a rare example of the artist's work in this medium, and was done for the Federal Art Project, a Depression era agency.

Arthur Prunier (1905-1973) and Frank Howard Bowers (1905-1964) executed two murals illustrating contemporary work and leisure in the lobby, paid for by the Works Progress Admininistration's Federal Arts Project in 1941.
